Communication and Attitude
What happens to democratic spaces when posturing becomes posturing and no one is listens anymore?
The photo festival Communication and Attitude, presented by the Museum Haus des Papiers from 3 July to 7 September, is dedicated to this question. The focus is on the topic of ‘Understanding democracy and respectful communication’. Where language reaches its limits, images can open up spaces. This is where photography becomes a medium of dialogue.
The photo festival shows works by 29 international artists and photographers as large-format photo posters in the urban space. On facades, billboards, in display cases as well as in cultural venues, libraries and district centres, the festival brings art to where people are. Documentary and artistic positions enter into dialogue along the lines of social conflict. A total of 14 locations in Berlin as well as locations in Chemnitz and Basel, Switzerland are taking part.
Our photo festival brings art to the public. We want to address not only an interested specialist audience from the field of photographic art, but also a broad public and invite them to embark on a journey that picks them up in the middle of their everyday lives. In this way, we want to make a contribution to ensuring that communication is not interrupted and that attitudes remain tangible.
Democracy needs art, and art needs the public.
Now more than ever.
