Rosemarie Trockel
For Rosemarie Trockel, the cluster is not a fixed image but an open way of thinking: image, text, and material engage with one another – contradictory, ambiguous, defiant.
A personal position through art – expressed via material, image, and language itself – is central to Trockel’s work. Critical, autonomous, rebellious, and always in dialogue with political as well as personal questions, she opens a window onto a wide range of themes.
Rosemarie Trockel was born in Schwerte in 1952. She is one of the most important international conceptual artists who lives and works in Berlin. She studied anthropology, sociology, theology and mathematics as well as fine art at the Werkkunstschule in Cologne. Important exhibitions include MoMa New York, documenta X and her retrospective at Museum Ludwig Cologne and MMK Frankfurt as well as Haus des Papiers. In addition to international exhibitions, she has received several awards.
