Free, wing-like forms emerge through cutting, layering and overlapping paper, without directly depicting nature.

In this workshop, we cut, layer and overlap different papers to create wing-like structures. Inspired by the work of Noriko Ambe, we explore rhythm, depth, transparency and form. Through layering and cut-out techniques, we create abstract paper artworks that evoke a sense of lightness and movement.

What sets one artist paper apart from another? What role do fibres, surfaces, paper weights and manufacturing processes play?

Paper becomes a playground for artistic experimentation!

Together with Club Collega, we invite collage artists and paper enthusiasts to create their own collages using the diverse range of Hahnemühle papers.

The challenge is to work with white papers, exploring different surfaces, textures, layers and the interplay of light and shadow as creative elements. Those who wish can introduce selected coloured papers to create striking contrasts.

The finished artworks will be photographed and presented in an online gallery. The audience will then vote for their three favourites.

How can lines, shapes and textures be made tangible? We experiment with linocut and ballpoint pens as embossing tools while exploring relief printing and intaglio techniques.

Using a professional printing press, we transfer our designs onto paper, creating unique tactile surfaces. We work with special paper stocks, including archival paper and the finest handmade papers. Together, we explore how paper, tools and printing techniques interact, and how different materials and processes influence the final results.

How can narrow strips of paper be transformed into delicate stars, tiny ornaments and festive decorations? In quilling, paper is rolled, bent and shaped into intricate creations with a light, three-dimensional quality. Together with Dr Schuster-Lang, we explore the basics of this distinctive paper art, turning simple spirals and loops into unique Christmas decorations. With a little patience and a creative touch, you'll create delicate paper artworks that capture the magic of the festive season in your own way.

What happens when we cut up images and reassemble them from scratch?

We combine the artistic techniques of collage and weaving to explore how images change when they are broken down and rearranged. Using magazine pages, photographs and various strips of paper, we experiment with woven structures, strip widths and overlays. In the process, motifs, colours and shapes shift, giving rise to surprising visual connections. In this way, we create unique woven collages and discover how two image areas can come together to form a completely new composition.

Choose from a wide selection of papers with different textures, surfaces and qualities. Using a needle, thread and awl, we explore traditional Japanese binding techniques and discover how individual sheets of paper become a book with its own unique character.

With no glue involved, carefully placed stitches hold the pages together. Experiment with different thread patterns and binding styles, and see how small changes can transform the design. The result is a one-of-a-kind book that brings craftsmanship, materials and design together, with the binding itself becoming an integral part of the artwork.

A tiger, a crocodile, or an animal that doesn’t even exist yet?

In this two-part materials workshop, we’ll discover how three-dimensional figures can be created from flat paper. We’ll explore how to construct stable shapes and how individual parts can be joined together. We’ll then work with paper and paste to investigate how several layers of paper form a solid surface. This will result in unique animal figures, which will be further developed in the second workshop. There are no limits to the imagination!

An image on a screen is beautiful. An image printed on the right paper can be stunning.

Matte or glossy? Smooth or textured? Velvety or with a brilliant shine? Paper is simply not just paper. And sometimes it is the surface that makes all the difference between an image that is quite nice and one that is truly wonderful.

In our workshop, we’ll discover just how easy high-quality fine art printing can be. No technical degree, no complicated jargon and no fear of pressing the wrong buttons.

You can even create impressive fine art prints using just an iPhone or iPad. We’ll show you how it works with the appropriate AM1X files from Canon.

We’ll experiment with different fine art papers from Canson Infinity and discover how surfaces, textures and material properties can transform colours, contrasts and the overall mood of an image. The focus is on hands-on experimentation, sharing ideas and enjoying the experience of seeing your own images in a whole new way on paper.

An evening for being amazed, asking questions and falling in love. With paper, of course.

A mobile is a drawing that enters the space around us. Lines become wire, shapes begin to balance, and each element responds to the others.

Step by step, we create mobiles using wire frames and paper. By bending, connecting and balancing the materials, we develop delicate structures that never remain still, but constantly shift and begin to dance.

The focus is on balance as a process rather than a final result, exploring tension, lightness and the way forces become visible in space.

How can a flat sheet of paper be transformed into a three-dimensional artwork? Inspired by selected artistic works at Museum Haus des Papiers, we explore paper as a multidimensional material. Through carefully placed cuts and selectively lifting sections of the surface, we create sculptural textures, reliefs and unexpected structures.

Light, shadow and negative space play a central role. Using simple techniques, we experiment with different shapes and spatial effects. The result is a series of individual paper artworks in which a flat surface takes on a new, three-dimensional form.

How does a paper animal develop its own unique character?

In the second part of our materials workshop, we’ll discover how colours, patterns and surface textures alter the appearance of a figure. We’ll explore different types of paper and experiment with layering, colours and small details. How can we create fur, scales or imaginative patterns from or on paper? The children will come up with their own solutions and transform their dried animal bodies into unique paper sculptures, which they can then take home with them.

A small paper construction that responds to movement, revealing its full form only when pulled. Through cutting and layering, we create a mechanism that sets the paper in motion. As the card opens, the paper begins to flow. Layers slide out one after another, revealing images and shapes in a quiet sequence of movement and surprise.

The result is not a static image, but a fleeting moment in paper, fully revealed only through the act of pulling, before folding back into itself.

How can simple strips of paper be turned into a sturdy basket or a small bag?

We’ll discover the traditional technique of weaving and explore how interweaving individual strips creates solid surfaces or three-dimensional shapes. We’ll experiment with different paper widths, weaving patterns and colours, and investigate how tension and structure affect stability. We’ll then use our woven paper pieces to make small baskets for Christmas presents, sweets or other special treasures.

How can light be shaped using paper?

We are investigating how different paper qualities, colours and textures influence the effect of light. In doing so, we are experimenting with transparent and semi-transparent papers and discovering how layering them creates new colour and light effects. We then design our own lampshade using a prepared template. By tearing, layering and pasting, we create unique paper surfaces and explore the interplay between material, transparency and light. The result is a personalised light feature for the home.

In our Christmas printing workshop, we’ll discover basic printing techniques and explore how different patterns are created through repetition, rotation and layering. We’ll experiment with colours, shapes and spacing, and investigate how small changes affect the final print. The children will develop their own designs and use them to create personalised wrapping paper, Christmas cards and gift tags. In this way, they’ll learn the basics of pattern design through play.

How do geometric patterns emerge without us drawing or printing them?

Taking our cue from orizome, a traditional Japanese paper-dyeing technique, we are experimenting with the interplay of folding and colour. By using different folding techniques and deliberately dipping the paper in dye, surprising patterns and colour gradients emerge. We explore how paper fibres, folds and colour combinations influence the result, and experiment with different types of paper. As the paper is unfolded, unique geometric compositions are revealed, which can be used as standalone works of paper art or incorporated into further design projects.

How can simple shapes and lines become unique, personalised cards? In this workshop, we get to know the Brother ScanNCut cutting machine and explore the possibilities of digital paper cutting. Using prepared designs, we experiment with shapes, sizes and arrangements. Working with high-quality papers from Canson and Hahnemühle, we create individual cards through layering, contrast and unexpected compositions.

After a brief introduction to digital cutting, there is plenty of time to experiment, combine materials and develop your own designs. No previous experience is necessary.
