Paper can be more than just a flat surface: it can preserve traces, reveal textures and tell stories. In this workshop, we experiment with linocut, a pressing machine – and embossing techniques.

Using lines, shapes and textures, we create our own embossed papers that come to life through their visible and tactile qualities.

Paper is not just a surface, but a living material. How does it respond to movement, touch and chance? What happens when we experience paper as a three-dimensional material?

Short pencils, long pencils, more pressure, less pressure: We experiment with different movements and rhythms and observe how our bodies respond to silence, sound and rhythm.

In abstract drawings, we capture these moments. The lines, traces and layers of density become an immediate expression of our individual experiences and emotional states.

Can you weave something from paper that eventually becomes a little bag? In this workshop, you’ll discover how simple strips of paper can be transformed into something special: colourful, unique and full of surprises.

Once your paper weaving is complete, you’ll turn it into a small autumn bag – perfect for collecting colourful leaves, chestnuts, drawings and all the little treasures you find along the way.​

How can paper be transformed into a living creature? In this workshop, we create mechanical paper birds that are brought to life using wire, a special support and a simple turning mechanism.

We explore the interplay between paper, movement and construction: by cutting, folding, connecting and assembling, we create our own moving bird, whose wings are set in motion by the mechanism. Along the way, we discover how a flat material can be transformed into a three-dimensional object with a dynamic movement of its own.

Creative design meets hands-on technical experimentation, inviting us to discover paper in a whole new way – as a material capable of movement. At the end of the workshop, everyone takes home their own handmade paper bird, ready to flap, swing and come to life with a simple turn.

Printing is not just about reproducing something – it is also about discovering traces.

What can become a printing tool? In this experimental workshop, we explore linocut alongside unusual materials and everyday objects. Paper clips, buttons, bamboo rolls, strings and many other objects are transformed into tools for creating unique, colourful marks on paper.

We experiment with surfaces, textures, pressure and movement, discovering how different materials can leave their imprint on paper. Unexpected marks and surprising compositions emerge along the way, turning the process into a playful encounter with chance. Through layering, repetition and spontaneous impressions, we create unique paper artworks combining graphic elements, texture and colour.

Fold, cut, weave and glue. Using paper, we create small propellers, flying objects and racing mice. They zoom through the air, glide, spin to the ground or dart through a slit in a sheet of paper.

Together, we experiment with how shape, weight and folding affect the way they fly. In a playful way, we discover how paper responds to air and gravity and experiment with new constructions again and again. Paper becomes a material that surprises, moves and inspires us to keep building.

Starting with a simple paper shape, you will create your own mask. With beaks, ears, horns, noses and more, you can turn your mask into a fantastical character. Paint, glue and decorate to your heart’s content using paper, stickers, colours and plenty of colourful paper scraps.

Music on, paper out, and let’s move! In this experimental format, a large sheet of paper becomes a shared space for movement. The body becomes a tool, movement leaves traces, and many individual actions come together to create a collective image.

The music starts, and the movement begins. As soon as it stops, everyone freezes. A new record, a new rhythm, a new movement – sometimes slow and focused, sometimes exuberant and wild. Layer by layer, the paper changes, capturing the movements of the group.​

We observe what happens when we move freely: How does the body change when we are tense? What happens when we let go? How much space do we take up? And how can many individual movements become a shared composition?

At the end, we take a few moments to reflect together. The large-scale collaborative artwork will remain in the Raum für Materialerfahrung and become part of the space.

Bring paper to life with light! You’ll tear and layer thin, translucent papers around a balloon. Along the way, you can incorporate colourful shapes, patterns and small paper motifs directly into the outer layer. Little by little, your own paper lantern takes shape and is left to dry on site.

At the second session, the balloon is removed and the paper lantern is fitted with a hanging loop. Please bring a small battery-powered LED light with you for this. Your lantern will then be ready to brighten up the dark autumn days.

The workshop consists of a two-hour creative session followed by a short session to finish and collect your lantern.

For Halloween, paper becomes the starting point for spooky, imaginative and surprising creations. Together, we’ll create small Halloween-themed objects such as ghosts, bats, spider webs, pumpkins and other creepy paper creatures. At the heart of the workshop are individual paper masks – whether you choose to become a witch, cat, vampire, pumpkin or invent your very own Halloween creature.

We’ll cut, fold, glue, roll and shape paper while exploring a variety of paper-crafting techniques. Colours, shapes and materials can be combined freely, allowing each participant to create their own unique and unusual paper objects.

This workshop combines creative making with hands-on techniques and invites you to discover paper from its spookiest side. Whether creepy, playful or fantastical, there are no limits to your Halloween imagination
