Dominik Butzmann

In To the Streets! Dominik Butzmann documents protest as a performative form of resistance. Public space becomes a place where messages are embodied, conveyed and negotiated. Butzmann's photographs show snapshots of a generation on the move and capture how young activists from the “Fridays for Future” movement occupy public space through their physical and verbal presence. The photograph of Luisa Neubauer in dialog with Wolfgang Schäuble condenses the generational conflict into an image of symbolic confrontation.

Dominik Butzmann was born 1974 in Berlin. As a photographer he focuses on political, social, and cultural themes. He studied photojournalism and works as a freelance photographer for renowned media outlets such as Die Zeit, Der Spiegel, and Süddeutsche Zeitung. Butzmann’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including at the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn and the German Bundestag.
