In his work War and Peace, Andreas Meichsner explores the phenomenon of an irritatingly playful representation of war and the military at the festival of the same name, the War and Peace Show, held in southern England. The world's largest festival for military vehicles, which was held until 2019, is characterized by re-enactments of war battles in miniature format, so-called re-enactments, as well as theatrically designed areas, the living history displays, in which protagonists imitated everyday war life in a variety of ways. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine at the latest, the work has prompted a discussion about our Western European, pacifist values.
Andreas Meichsner lives and works in Berlin. As a freelance photographer, he uses the medium of photography primarily for documentary purposes. He has received teaching assignments from various universities and was a visiting professor at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. His work has been presented in international group exhibitions.
