Communication and Attitude

What does democracy mean today? How can we negotiate compromises without fighting each other? How can we ensure that the discourse about our societal coexistence is conducted on equal terms, rather than below the belt?

In the election year of 2025, the museum Haus des Papiers will host the photography festival Communication and Attitude from July 3 to September 7, and aims to open up different perspectives on the theme of "understanding democracy and respectful communication" through the medium of photography.

Our photography festival brings art to the public – to where people are: in streets, community centers, libraries, and other freely accessible cultural venues. We want to engage not only the interested professional audience from the field of photographic art but also a broad public, inviting them to embark on a journey that reaches them right in the middle of their everyday lives. In this way, we hope to contribute to ensuring that communication doesn’t break down and that attitude remains palpable.

Democracy needs art, and art needs the public. Now more than ever.
